Colleagues

These days you sent some messages to express distress or anxiety as if the project ABCD was being abandoned by Bireme and similar ideas.

As rightly said Egbert, and we reiterate, is committed institutionally Bireme ABCD and has incorporated it as part of its regional strategy Virtual Health Library. In July completed the installation of ABCD in the Library of the Health Ministry in Brasilia and is pursuing similar projects in other institutions, coming at the University of São Paulo.

We understood that ABCD is not the only project Bireme, because as you can see on page Redd, see more than 20 projects under development and all in FOSS, or open source.
See: http://reddes.bvsaude.org/php/ index.php? Lang = en

Moreover we should not personalize the projects. ABCD not "belong " to any person or developer in particular, no one is indispensable. Possibly the most important person in the history of CDS / ISIS was Giampaolo Del Bigio, and then they left us 10 years ago, ISIS has continued its way with the cooperation of many people. ABCD does not depend on who is engaged in any of the persons mentioned in messages. Programmers do not have stars.

ABCD is the result of cooperative work of more than 80 people in 20 countries. Some people are better known because they have taken a public role, but are not necessarily even the most important or the most developed tasks. If you look at the page of the Hall of Fame will see that staff Bireme involving some 20 people, and half a dozen of them do on a permanent basis, but their names do not usually appear. These people developed entirely SeCS Empweb, iAH, ABCS interface-Site and CISIS library and utility that was scheduled on the ABCD. This accounts for more than 50% of the application and some of his remains in low-profile names.

is not necessary contracts for the ABCD Bireme progress. Several people have made very important contributions on a voluntary basis without ever asked anything. Only three examples (and I'm being unfair to all those who forget). Ben Winnubst of New Zealand is a permanent contributor since the first time with very important contributions, as Edwin Hübner in Brazil that has taken over key tasks review MARC. Wenke Adam de Chile has been our main English translator and has reviewed hundreds of pages of manuals. But look at the page of the Hall of Fame , there are dozens of you who cooperate without contracts.

Myself, (and I was appointed because I was mentioned in some posts) I have some regular contracts, but not permanently, only when there are tasks that we require. The rest of the time we continue to cooperate voluntarily, because it would mean for us to condition our contribution to a FOSS application to the fact that we pay. The same can be said of Megnigbeto Eustache, Piet de Keyser and many others who never asked for money to help. So

ABCD is the result of cooperation of all of you under the coordination of BIREME team still working. Those who want to work are welcome. Sincerely

Ernesto Spinak
Warning: Do not have money ;-)
